EE Berlin II

Chapter II — Berlin (May 2016) Berlin doesn't keep erotic secrets, so we went looking for ours. We worked the city and then retreated north, living for a week in an old castle where the only rule was to go deeper. We photograph people who live with passion — strong and vulnerable at the same time — and we teach our photographers to shoot them with absolute respect. Some of us found our obscure object of desire. Others are still living inside it. With us was Jane Evelyn Atwood.

A safari through the human jungle—an excess and a catharsis—transforming us into fearless hunters and bold explorers of life, while also instilling a deep respect for those in front of us and the life that surrounds us. Not only because Donna constantly scrutinised our work with a meticulous eye for composition and framing rules, often quite harshly, but also because she emphasised the importance of organising the image through our viewfinder. It broadens our perspective on the world and our way of viewing things, and enhances our ability to choose.

My experience with Donna and Tomeu has taught me to recognise the hidden and subliminal meanings in reality. I've begun to value what I once overlooked. I am an adventurer exploring photography as a means of growth. Throughout this journey, I began to see my surroundings through my erotic eye.

I've participated in 5 intensive week/long workshops with Donna Ferrato and Tomeu Coll. They were transformational learning experiences. Donna had a sense of purpose about her approach to photography that is inspirational, and might even be described as "gonzo". She mentors and teaches with an in-the-moment directness, followed by periods of reflection that bring another level of insight and growth. The venue and subject of their workshops are always unique and challenging. Nothing is staged, finding great moments that bring new insight to both photographer and the photographed.
